The mom was a starving pig, so skinny, living in the wild, trying to survive by eating corn and drinking water that a man in the woods set out for the deer in his area. When she showed up with four tiny babies and became a nuisance, he brought her to us. We did have some offers of homes for them, but transportation was always an issue with potential adopters living hundreds of miles away, and most not really understanding that pigs can live for 15+ years and can be destructive and demanding, so they remained here with us. The pigs have thrived, as you can see, and are part of the sanctuary now, but the sad fact is that we are having a difficult time managing to afford the feed bill for them. They each weigh in excess of 500 lbs and eat an enormous amount of food. When we accepted them into the sanctuary we really thought we could find them appropriate homes while they were little. Of course, we cant turn them away now or let them be slaughtered, so were asking for help.
